Nate’s Place: A Space to Pay It Forward

Nate’s Place: A Space to Pay It Forward

(People Magazine Story)

When 21-year-old Nate Rhoades died suddenly in a tragic car accident, his parents, Heidi and Larry, were faced with a loss no family should endure. Nate had fought hard to reclaim his life from addiction, achieving sobriety and dedicating himself to health, fitness, and helping others with their mental health/substance use struggles.  Even in death Nate continued to give—his organ donations saved nearly 100 lives, creating unexpected bonds and profound healing for families who would never have met otherwise. His story is one of resilience, generosity, and a life that continues to matter.

Inspired by Nate’s journey and the countless young people who struggle silently with substance use and mental health challenges, his parents transformed their grief into purpose by creating Nate’s Place, A Wellness & Recovery Center. Nate’s Place exists to offer what so many young people lack: a safe, welcoming space rooted in connection, peer support, and hope. Through peer recovery coaching, wellness groups, 20+ recreational activities, and a clubhouse community, Nate’s Place meets people where they are—before crisis turns into tragedy. Every program is designed to remind participants that they are seen, valued, and not alone.

For donors, Nate’s Place represents more than a nonprofit, a living legacy of lives saved, futures restored, and families kept whole. Just as Nate’s organ donation gave others a second chance, your support helps ensure that young people struggling today have access to the tools, relationships, and care they need to choose life and recovery. This work is only possible because of generous partners who believe, as Nate did, that one life can change many—and that hope is always worth investing in as said in People Magazine.
