About Nate’s Place, A Wellness and Recovery Center
Q: Who do you serve?
We work with teens and young adults (ages 13–26) who are navigating mental health challenges, social anxiety, a history of trauma, and working on recovery from substance misuse or use, or simply want to build healthier coping and life skills.
Q: What kinds of services do you offer?
We provide outpatient programs including 1:1 peer support recovery coaching for EVERY participant, individual counseling, group therapy, education and support groups, social skills groups, DBT/CBT skills, recovery support, family education, and 20+ wellness recreational activities.
Q: Do you only work with people in recovery from substances?
No. While we support youth who are working on recovery, many participants join us for mental health support, stress management, social skills, trauma, or wellness.
Q: Is this a residential program?
No, we are an outpatient wellness and recovery center. Teens and young adults attend sessions, activities and groups here, then return home.
Getting Started
Q: How do I get started?
Contact us by phone, email, or through our website. We’ll first do a phone screening to assess your needs, and see if our center is a fit for you. If our center can help you, we will set up an intake assessment to enroll you in our program. The assessment usually takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. If you need other referrals or a higher level of treatment, we will provide those for you.
Q: Do I need a referral from a doctor or school?
No referral is needed. Individuals and parents can contact us directly.
Q: How quickly can I begin services?
We aim to schedule intake sessions within 1–2 weeks, depending on availability.
Program Details
Q: How long are the programs?
Length depends on each person’s needs. Some join for short-term skill building, while others continue for several months or over a year, depending on their situation and needs.
Q: What types of groups do you offer?
Groups include DBT skills groups, CBT groups, Coping Skills group, Social Skills, LGBTQ+ support group, Addiction and Recovery groups, Ethnic Identity Group, Improv Group, Education Talks with a VCMC doctor, Wellness Workshops, and lots of peer connection activities.
Q: What types of activities do you offer?
We offer everything from music lessons, a music studio and camp, fitness classes, workout equipment, art activities and workshops, in addition to hiking, kayaking, pickleball, basketball, etc. So many activities are offered!
Q: Is the program voluntary and is there a required number of days to attend?
Nate’s Place is entirely voluntary and teens and young adults must want to attend the program. Participants must also attend once a week on average to stay enrolled. They can attend any number of days, Monday through Friday. It is helpful to bring your teen to take a tour of our center before scheduling, to make sure they are open to attending. They can talk to our peer coaches and see all of the fun activities we do at Nate’s Place!
Q: Do parents or families participate?
Yes. We offer parent education support groups and family support sessions when appropriate. We also offer Community Talks/Open Houses for families, youth and community members, featuring speakers on a variety of topics.
Practical Questions
Q: Where are you located?
We are located at 3840 W. Channel Islands Blvd., in Oxnard, California. Our center is outpatient and is easy to access by car or public transportation. Once a participant is enrolled, we offer transportation via our 4 vehicles, to and from our center from schools and home, as needed. This is all explained in the intake assessment session.
Q: What are your hours?
Our hours are 1:00p – 7p and 1:00p – 8p, depending on the days. We do pick-ups at various times throughout the day. During the summers and winter breaks, we are open earlier.
Q: Do you take insurance?
We do not charge for our services or transportation at this time. There is no fee for services.
Q: Is everything confidential?
Yes. We follow HIPAA privacy laws to keep information confidential, with limited exceptions for safety. All files are kept in a locked file cabinet, behind a locked door.
Q: Can I guarantee that my teen will be safe at the center?
Yes. All participants are supervised by our team of peer support recovery coaches and activity specialists, as well as the Program Director and Senior Peer Support Recovery Coach. No teen is able to leave the center without a peer support recovery coach accompanying them. This is all explained during the intake process. Our peer support recovery coaches and activity specialists interact with the participants throughout the day.
Recovery & Wellness
Q: Do you drug test?
No, we do not administer drug tests at our center. However, our Guidelines and Rules explain that participants cannot come to the center under the influence nor can they bring devices, drugs or alcohol to the center. If a participant is in need of a higher level of care, we will provide linkage to such services as we work closely with Psychiatrists, Intensive Outpatient Programs, and Residential Programs.
Q: Can someone attend if they’re not sure they want to stop using substances?
Yes. We meet teens and young adults where they are and provide support, education, and tools for healthier choices. We take a harm reduction approach at our center. However, if the potential participant is using substances daily, they would likely need a higher level of care before attending our center.
Q: Do you work with teens who have autism or social anxiety?
Yes. We work with high functioning youth who are on the autism spectrum, and those who have social anxiety, and other social/communication challenges.
