Nate’s Recovery Recipe
At Nate’s Place, our recovery model is more than a program—it’s a legacy.
Inspired by Nate Rhoades, who overcame addiction as a teen before tragically passing away at 21 from a car accident, the “Recovery Recipe” reflects the path he followed in his teenage years and the hope he left behind. Founded in his memory, Nate’s Place carries forward his spirit of resilience, mentorship, and compassionate support.
The Recovery Recipe offered at our center is a three-part, evidence-based approach designed to help youth and young adults overcome mental health, trauma, and/or substance use challenges. Rooted in Nate’s personal journey and supported by research, our program integrates:
1:1 Peer Support Recovery Coaching
Each participant is paired with a trained and certified Peer Support Recovery Coach, who brings lived experience, empathy, and guidance to every session, and offers relatable mentorship, goal setting and personalized support on the path to mental health and/or substance use recovery.
20+ Healthy Replacement Recreational Activities
We offer over 20 engaging, healing activities, from fitness, boxing and guitar lessons, to art therapy, music, kayaking and hiking. The activities help participants replace unhealthy behaviors with positive, sustainable habits, and find their unique interests and strengths.
Groups: Counseling, Education/Support Groups and Wellness Workshops
Participants can access 14+ specialized groups and workshops designed to build coping skills, foster connection and support, and address each participant’s unique needs.
A Proven Path to Recovery
Nate’s Place is a drop-in center and a warm, non-clinical environment where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered. Our services are completely free of charge, including transportation.
We recognize that stigma can be a major barrier to seeking and continuing care. That’s why we’ve created a welcoming space that feels more like a clubhouse than a clinic. By incorporating culturally relevant education and normalizing conversations around mental health, trauma and substance use, we help participants and their families feel safe engaging in the recovery process.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Oxnard, in Ventura County, California, Nate’s Place is committed to making mental health and substance use recovery accessible for youth and young adults in need of support.

Today is a new day.
The Mission at Nate’s Place is to deliver targeted programs, which include Peer Support Recovery Coaching, Counseling, Education and Support Groups and 20+ Healthy Recreational Activities to teens and young adults (ages 13-26), who are at risk of mental health, trauma and/or substance use challenges and are striving to attain and maintain sobriety and mental health in a safe, healthy manner. Join Nate’s Place and embark on a transformative journey toward health and happiness.
